Digital Marketing Explained Part 1.

The Business Dictionary defines Digital Marketing as the “promotion of products or brands via one or more forms of electronic media”.

Digital Marketing is more effective than traditional marketing such as TV advertising, Billboards, Newspaper and Print Advertising because it is more cost-efficient and timely, making it easier to measure the impact of your marketing campaign and return of investment. This is supported by a recent research conducted by Hubspot, which states that 54% more leads are generated by inbound tactics than traditional paid marketing.

Forms of Digital Marketing

Email Marketing is simply Electronic Mail. It’s a way for you to build your brand, build customer loyalty and generate sales through promotional and educational campaigns. Email Marketing is known to be one of the most effective forms of Digital Marketing.

It was ranked as the best channel for measuring return on investment by 68% of companies in the Email Marketing Industry Census conducted by Econsultancy.

2. Social Media Marketing enables you to drive traffic to your website, generate leads, promote your brand and build a community using sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Periscope and much more.

Social Media Marketing is a fantastic way to gain access to a new audience. There are 1.59 billion monthly active users on Facebook, 400 million monthly active users on Instagram, 320 monthly active users on Twitter and 414 registered members on LinkedIn.

3. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a process of improving your website’s visibility in organic (non paid) search engine results such as Google, Bing and Yahoo. The higher you rank on a search result the more likelihood the user will visit your website.

This is supported by research published by Adweek, 61% of shoppers begin by using a search engine to find the products they want before heading to a specific website.

4. Pay per Click (PPC) in simple terms is Search Engine Advertising. It allows you to get your advert above organic search results. Thus, every time a user clicks on your advert, it leads to your website and the search engine charges you a fee. The most popular PPC advertising system is Google Adwords because Google receives over 64% of all search engine traffic in comparison to their competitors i.e. Bing and Yahoo.

PPC advertising is the quickest way to generate leads and sales for your business. This is further supported by research posted on SiteWit.com, which states that “Businesses make an average of $2 in revenue for every $1 they spend on Adwords”.

5. So what is Content Marketing? Simply put. “Content is anything that communicates a message to the audience. Anything” — Ian Lurie, CEO, Portent Inc.

You can execute your content marketing strategy using Infographics, webpages, podcasts, videos or books. Having a successful content marketing strategy can help to create a strong awareness of your brand, position you as an expert or thought leader, improve your SEO, improve your website traffic and it is highly effective in generating leads and sales.

This is supported by research published on Demand Metric, which stated that Content Marketing generates 3 times as many leads as traditional outbound marketing, but costs 62% less.
